Case Study: Community Restoration at Wollaton's Secret Garden

Dragon Equipment is thrilled to highlight a recent project that perfectly embodies our commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Our CR450 Crusher played a pivotal role in the restoration of Wollaton's Walled Garden, showcasing the power of recycling in heritage preservation.

The Wollaton Walled Garden Project: A Community Vision

The Wollaton Walled Garden Project, also known as the Secret Garden, is a remarkable community-led initiative. Coordinated by the Friends of Wollaton Park, this project aims to breathe new life into the historic 4-acre walled garden at Wollaton Hall in Nottingham, England. The project's goals are multifaceted: to conserve the garden's rich heritage, cultivate a space for traditional horticulture, and offer invaluable learning and educational opportunities for the community.

The Challenge: Reclaiming History, Sustainably

As the dedicated volunteers of the Wollaton Walled Garden Project continue restoration and maintenance of the space, they faced the challenge of managing a significant amount of old red brick. Rather than resorting to traditional disposal methods, they sought a sustainable solution that would honour the garden's historical significance.

The Solution: Dragon Equipment CR450 Crusher, Hired from Soar Hire

The answer came in the form of our powerful and versatile CR450 Crusher, conveniently hired from Soar Hire, based in Leicestershire. This compact yet robust machine proved to be the perfect tool for transforming the old red bricks into high-quality Type 1 aggregate. Type 1, a crucial material in construction, was ideal for creating sub-bases and drainage layers within the garden, ensuring its long-term stability.

Thank you to volunteer Anthony Bennett, and to Nick from Soar Hire for sharing this community-led construction and restoration project.
