GreenMech and GenG Green Tech event collaboration

Last month (22-23 Feb) we were delighted to collaboratively host an event for visitors from The Netherlands. The event took place at our industry-partner GreenMech’s factory in Warwickshire, and was attended by several potential customers flown in specifically by our Dutch importer GenG Green Tech.

The GreenMech factory provided the perfect indoor and outdoor settings for both companies to demonstrate their products and what they could do. And given that chippers, crushers and lifters all share several cross overs when it comes to the end user, it was the perfect partnership.

The primary focus of the event was to showcase our latest innovations, including the LF1000 Lifter, CR300 Crusher and CR400 Crusher, alongside a range of GreenMech Chippers. Throughout the two-day event, our guests were treated to firsthand demonstrations of our machinery in action, as well as some engaging presentations and British hospitality.

Our Managing Director, Jeff Haines, commented;

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to GreenMech for hosting the event, and also to Gert at GenG Green Tech for inviting and accompanying our guests. The event highlighted the power of collaboration and support within our industry and it was great to see peers come together to champion innovation and progress.”

Case study: Perfect recycled hillside path

This project in the hard-to-reach area in the mountains of Nice is a perfect example of how the CR300 Crusher can make lightwork of a potentially difficult and dangerous job.

Spending your days on the hillside in the beautiful Nice area of the South of France might sound like a dream! But perhaps not so much when you need to lay a new sewer maintenance path.

To ensure easy maintenance, this landowner wanted to a stable and safe path uphill alongside the 2km long sewer pipe. To achieve this, the CR300 Crusher was helicoptered to the hillside and dropped off at the start of the pipeline. At under 800Kg, and with perfectly balanced twin lifting points, this was a simple and safe task for the pilot.

Working over a distance of 2km, and on very rough terrain, the CR300 and its all-terrain tracks worked continuously to crush all the rubble, stone and debris alongside the pipe using the smallest 20mm jaw setting.

The crushed material was deposited from the crusher chute directly back into the ground, creating a perfect recycle path. Not only did this greatly reduce the cost of building the path as no new material was required, but it was also immeasurably quicker, as the old stone did not need to be taken down the hillside, and new stone bought back up.

CR400 Crusher: Instant Crush Size Adjustment

In the world of heavy machinery, innovation is a game-changer, and the CR400 Crusher is full of it! One of the most exciting features on the new CR400 Crusher is the introduction of instant crush size adjustment. This addition allows operators to adjust the crush output size on the fly while the machine is in operation, using the simple up and down arrows at the front of the machine.

This feature means that users can tweak the crush size as the job progresses, without the need to halt operations and eliminating the time and effort required for pre-job adjustments. This instant crush size adjustment is a true game-changer - whether operators need to finely tune output or quickly adjust to handle more challenging materials.

With a range from 3mm to 55mm, it allows users to crush as they see fit. Even if a piece is more challenging, a slight opening will let it pass through without disrupting the workflow. This is not only faster but also more convenient than having to reverse the machine or stop the machine for adjustment.

The operation of this crush size adjustment is simple - anyone can operate it without the need for technical expertise or additional tools, making the CR400 Crusher the perfect choice for hire businesses. Hire shops will especially appreciate this feature, as it minimizes the chances of receiving calls about jammed machines, making equipment management a breeze.

If you’d like to see the CR400 Crusher in operation, please reach out to the Dragon Equipment Team, who would love to arrange a live demo!

7 cost-saving benefits of using a crusher on your next project

The efficient management of materials and resources is crucial for both environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness. Our crushers are designed with both in mind, offering a range of advantages which not only contribute to sustainable practices but also result in substantial cost savings for construction and landscaping projects.

1. No disposal costs

One of the most immediate cost-saving benefits of using a crusher is the elimination of disposal costs. Traditional methods of disposing of rubble and concrete involve hiring skip or grab away services, which can be expensive. By crushing the material on-site, this cost can be avoided altogether.

2. No need for new aggregate

Crushed rubble and concrete can often be reused in the same project. This eliminates the need to purchase new aggregate materials, which can be a significant expense. By recycling the crushed material, there is no need to buy in new material, contributing to a more streamlined and sustainable construction process.

3. Reduced labour costs

Crushing rubble and concrete on-site also greatly reduces labour costs. With no waste to remove and no new aggregate to shift in, the workforce can focus on more productive tasks, boosting efficiency.

4. No transportation costs

The transportation of old or new materials to and from a construction site can be costly and time consuming. Crushers allow users to process material right where it's needed, minimising transportation expenses - especially advantageous for remote or challenging locations.

5. Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Our crushers are designed with a focus on a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Their durability and ease of maintenance mean a longer machine lifespan and lower maintenance expenses. This strategic design ensures an investment in a Dragon Crusher is not just a short-term cost-saving measure, but a long-term asset.

6. Saleable crushed material

The crushed material can be a valuable resource in its own right. If there is surplus crushed material not needed for the current job, it can be sold to other construction projects or even recycling facilities. This additional revenue stream can further offset operational costs.

7. Efficiency and compact design

The Dragon Crushers are efficient and compact, making them more cost-effective than larger, fuel-hungry machines on the market. Their smaller footprint and lower fuel consumption translate to cost savings throughout the project's duration, while still delivering the required crushing capacity.

If you're looking to optimise your construction or landscaping operations, consider the many benefits of using a crusher to efficiently process rubble and concrete on-site. Not only will you save on costs, but you'll also be taking steps towards a more environmentally responsible construction industry.

Unlocking Environmental Benefits: Recycling Concrete

In an era marked by growing environmental concerns, finding sustainable solutions to reduce waste and minimise resource consumption is paramount. The construction industry, notorious for its substantial carbon footprint, is gradually embracing eco-friendly practices, and recycling concrete has emerged as a game-changer in this regard. Our crushers meet the industry needs to achieve this perfectly. The CR300 Crusher and new CR400 Crusher, not only promote efficiency but also contribute significantly to environmental preservation.

Reducing Landfill Waste

Concrete is the most widely used construction material globally, resulting in immense quantities of waste when buildings and infrastructure are demolished or renovated. Traditionally, much of this waste found its way to landfills, exacerbating environmental problems. However, with Dragon Equipment's concrete crushers, this waste can now be recycled, reducing the burden on landfills and conserving valuable space for other uses.

Energy and Resource Savings

Producing new concrete from raw materials like sand, cement, and aggregates consumes substantial energy and resources. By crushing and reusing concrete waste on-site, these crushers help save energy, reduce the need for mining natural resources, and cut down on transportation costs associated with hauling materials to and from construction sites.

Lowering Carbon Footprint

The environmental impact of concrete production is closely linked to its carbon emissions. The cement industry alone accounts for around 7% of global CO2 emissions. By recycling concrete, construction projects can significantly lower their carbon footprint. Crushing and reusing concrete on-site reduces the need for transporting new materials, resulting in fewer emissions from heavy machinery and vehicles.

Promoting Sustainable Practices

Using Dragon Equipment's CR300 and CR400 crushers doesn't just make environmental sense; it also aligns with sustainability goals. Many countries and regions now have regulations in place to encourage or mandate recycling in construction projects. Employing these crushers not only helps meet these requirements but also demonstrates a commitment to responsible and sustainable building practices.

Built-in dust suppression: A crushers best friend

In the construction, hard landscaping and groundwork industries, crushers play a vital role in breaking down large chunks of material into smaller, more manageable pieces, ready for reuse, sale or disposal. However, there is one challenge that often arises during this process: dust. The release of airborne particles during crushing can pose health hazards to workers and nearby communities. That's where the built-in dust suppression system in our CR300 and CR400 Crushers comes to the rescue.

The health and safety of workers should always be a top priority on any work site. By integrating a dust suppression system into our crushers, harmful dust particles are effectively controlled and prevented from becoming airborne. This significantly reduces the risk of respiratory issues and other health problems caused by dust inhalation.

The impact of dust extends beyond the immediate work area, potentially affecting nearby communities and the environment. A built-in dust suppression system curbs the dispersion of dust particles, minimising the environmental footprint of crushing operations. By keeping dust levels low, it contributes to a cleaner and healthier surrounding environment.

Construction projects must comply with strict environmental regulations to safeguard public health and maintain sustainable practices. Many regions have regulations in place that limit dust emissions from construction sites. By incorporating a dust suppression system, the Dragon Equipment crushers can easily meet these standards, avoiding potential fines and penalties.

Dust accumulation can have a detrimental effect on machinery, leading to reduced performance and increased maintenance requirements. The dust suppression system helps keep the internal components of the crushers clean and free from debris, ensuring optimal performance and extending the machine's lifespan.

Dust can also interfere with the visibility and working conditions of operators, reducing their productivity. A dust suppression system minimises airborne particles, allowing operators to work in a safer and more comfortable environment. Improved visibility and air quality lead to increased productivity, ultimately saving time and resources on projects.

Using a standard garden hose as the water source for the dust suppression system makes it highly cost-effective. The availability of water on sites is generally abundant, and utilising this readily accessible resource eliminates the need for additional complex and expensive equipment. The cost savings achieved can be redirected to other crucial aspects of the project.

Simple, but essential machine maintenance

We like to think our machines are super easy and simple to maintain. But there is one key piece of maintenance we recommend over and above everything else, and that is to ensure the grease nipples are greased regularly – ideally daily.

Grease nipples, also known as grease fittings or zerks, are used in the hydraulic systems of our machines for lubrication purposes. There are several reasons why this is our number maintenance tip;

Lubrication: The primary purpose of greasing a grease nipple is to provide lubrication to the components of a machine.

Friction reduction: Lubrication reduces friction between moving parts, minimises wear and tear, and ensures smooth operation.

Seal and protect: Grease acts as a sealant and protective barrier. It helps seal out contaminants like dirt, dust, moisture, and debris that could enter the machine's components.

Temperature control: Grease can help dissipate heat generated by friction within the machine. It provides a thermal barrier, reducing the risk of overheating and ensuring optimal performance.

Maintenance and inspection: By greasing the appropriate fittings, you can visually inspect the condition of the components, identify any signs of wear or damage, and take necessary maintenance measures.

Noise reduction: Proper lubrication through greasing can also help reduce noise produced by moving parts. By maintaining a lubricating film, grease minimises metal-to-metal contact, resulting in quieter operation.

It might be a simple task, but it is essential to proper machine maintenance – so keep your grease gun handy!
