Part 1: Reducing Manual Handling Risks

The Health and Safety Benefits of Dragon Lifters on Construction Sites

Manual handling remains a significant risk on construction sites, with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reporting that 17% of non-fatal injuries in the construction industry in 2023 were due to handling, lifting, or carrying tasks. Workers often face hazards such as overexertion, muscle strain, and back injuries when moving heavy materials like logs, sandbags, and pallets. The Dragon Equipment Lifters, however, offer a safer and more efficient solution, allowing workers to safely move loads across construction sites without unnecessary physical strain.

Historically, machinery to assist with lifting wasn’t always a viable option due to cost, access limitations, or the unavailability of suitable equipment. The LF1000 Lifter from Dragon Equipment is designed to overcome these barriers. At just 840mm wide, it is compact enough to access even the most hard-to-reach sites. It’s also light enough to be transported easily in a van or trailer, enabling it to be moved from one location to another without logistical difficulties.

The LF1000 Lifters can handle substantial loads - up to 1,000kg - eliminating the need for manual lifting of heavy materials. This significantly reduces the risks of worker injuries by removing strenuous lifting tasks. Additionally, the lifters offer ergonomic benefits, with universal controls and a raised operator platform that ensures better visibility and comfort, minimising physical strain on operators.

All Dragon Equipment Lifters are compatible with interchangeable attachments, including a bag lift, articulated log grab, pallet bars and post hole borer. Attachments are simple to swap, with tool-free and easy connection points, for a truly adaptable and versatile machine capable of lifting many different load types.

From a regulatory standpoint, Dragon Equipment Lifters help businesses comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR), which require employers to reduce risks associated with manual handling. By using equipment like the LF1000, businesses can meet their legal obligations and create safer working environments.
